Activity 4.1 Class 10 Science – Explanation

Aim of the activity

To make a list of things that are used in daily life and find out used material they are made from.

Materials Required

    1. Pen and notebook

    2. Chart

    3. List of 10 items

Procedure

We will follow the below steps:

   1.  We will make a personal list of 10 things that we use or consume from morning to evening like- toothpaste, breakfast, notebook etc.

   2. We combine our list with our classmates’ list to create an extensive list.

   4. If an item is made of more than one material, we categories them in the all relevant columns.

    Observation

We can see that most of things made of carbon such as plastics, food, fuels etc.

Explanation

Most of the things that we use are made of carbon because carbon has ability to form bonds with many elements. So, carbon found in many compounds.

    1.  Food (carbohydrates, protein, fats)

    2. Fuel (petrol, diesel, LPG)

    3. Plastic (tyos, bottels)

    4. Cosmetics (soap, shampoo)

    5. Fabrics (cotton, nylon)

Conclusion

Most of the utilities which we use in our daily life are made up of compounds of carbon.

This activity helps understand that a large number of things we use are made of carbon compounds and this activity show the versatile nature of carbon.
