This activity explains the force of attraction present between water molecules.
Is there any force of attraction present between water molecules?
Aim of the activity
To observe the force of attraction between particles in liquids
Materials used in the activity
1. Running tap water
Procedure
We Open a water tap, and let the water flowing continuously. Now we try to break the stream of water with our fingers.
Observation
We find
1. The water stream break for a moment when it is touched with finger but as fingers are removed, it join back.
2. We cannot break water stream permanently.
Explanation
Water molecules are attracted due to cohesive force, this attraction between similar molecules keeps the stream unbroken.
Conclusion
This activity explains that water molecules are attracted with cohesive force.
